Want to convert your DVDs into files? Handbrake is a free solution for computers running Windows, Linux or even Mac OS. I am becoming very fond of converting some of my DVDs since I can store the files on my pen drive to make them more portable, place them on a data DVD, or even on a video iPod.
I really like Handbrake because of the many features available on it, although in its beta version, the program works quite well. With Handbrake you can get your DVD and convert them into a MP4, AVI, or OGM file. If you want, the conversion can even rip different languages and subtitles from the DVD. The OGM file extension allows for a greater flexibility in selecting multiple audio channels and subtitles.
The conversion is quite simple, first you point the program to the VIDEO_TS folder and then you choose the name of the file destination (choosing also the file format). You're done! Click on encode to start the process and just wait. Other options will likely be set as default so you don't have to worry about them. But, if you want you can also use several options available such as adjusting screen size, cropping the video, audio and even change the speed of the image.
Remember, converting videos is a task that takes up a lot of computer resources so it is best if done over night when no one is using the computer. Another important thing to note is that Handbrake will not be able to brake some restriction codes, to help on this you can use
AnyDVD (unfortunately it isn't a free application though).
