NotíciaLets analyze a little who won what at the 2007 Oscar (79th Edition)

We shall start with the Documentary.

The nominees were:

  • "My Country, My Country" - documentary with Laura Poitras as director which was filmed to depict life in Iraq during the American occupation. Laura lived alone in Iraq during eight months to do this movie.
  • "Deliver Us from Evil" - film released in October of last year had Amy Berg as the director. This documentary tells the story of priest Oliver O'Grady, recognized by the curch as a paedophile but still was approved to continue his work.An Inconvenient Truth
  • "Iraq in Fragments" - had as directors Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady and tells the story of a Christian Evangelical movement in the US. The documentary describes the efforts of this Evangelical movement to train children to be the soldiers of God's army.
  • and the winner was... "An Inconvenient Truth" - former vice-president and president candidate who lost to George Bush, Al Gore now has the main role in this movie. The documentary shows several data and facts about global warming with the objective to raise awareness for environmental protection.

Leven der AnderenIn the category of foreign film I only saw the Mexican "Laberinto del Fauno". This movie was contextualized in Spain during the WW II. It is not exactly a fairy tale, I mean, almost... The movie has in the main role a girl that mixes her real world with an imaginary world to try to soften the brutal reality that surrounds her. It won some Oscar awards, but not in this category. Who actually won as best foreign film was "Life of the Others" (Leven der Anderen) from Germany. Sorry, but I will have to go to my nearest video rental store and grab this movie to comment more about it.

Continuing on the list, we had "Happy Feet" winning best Animated Feature Film; "Pirates of the Caribbean" as the winner for visual effects, and Gustavo Santaolalla with "Babel" as best music written for motion pictures.

http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/coverv/68/870868.jpgAs best movie and most awarded of the night was Martin Scorsese's "The Departed". On a random normal day that I had nothing to do, I went to the movies with some friends. We really knew nothing about the movies that were showing, by chance we went to see this one. What a great surprise! The cast of this film with Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and others, already notes to the great quality of the movie. This drama / suspense tells a complex story of gangsters where no one actually knows who the other one is.
