Michael Moore is far from being a normal Hollywood director and his movies are known for not being discrete. In 2004 he was the Director for Farenheit 9/11 and in 2002 Bowling for Columbine about the American gun industry, these were his most recent (and famous) movies. Now the 'attack' is strong on the American HMO, companies that are supposed to manage the healthcare system, and even American politicians.
The movie was shot in Canada, Cuba, USA, France and England. Since Americans are prohibited to travel to Cuba and make any financial transaction (which includes buying any product, even the smallest candy bar), Moore was afraid that when he returned to the US his recording material would be confiscated. To guarantee the integrity of his movie assets, copies were maid and held in Canada.

Sicko was widely available on the internet to download through YouTube and other bittorrent sites. Several people mentioned that this was a strategy that Michael Moore found to protect his movie in case the American government wanted to disturb his plans. After everything was solved the copies of the movies were taken down from YouTube and other sites.
This movie is really an excellent work, really in the style of Michal Moore and I even dare to say its pretty 'bloody.' The negligence from HMOs in the US are quite strong and several people filmed by Moore died during the recording from lack of proper medical treatment. But Moore doesn't only point to the problem, he also suggests solutions such as using the healthcare systems seeing in countries like Cuba, England, Canada, and France. These countries adopted the philosophy of what the movie calls socialization of healthcare system where help is given to the entire population for free (or almost).
According to the
World Health Organization, France has the best healthcare system of the world and the US is in 37th place (Brazil is further down the list).
As in all movies by Michael Moore, Sicko is an excellent movie to start a debate and bring attention to a topic that needs urgent attention. But, I have to be honest saying that the facts brought by the movie are not the entire truth. It is a movie and to explain all of the details of everything is just not possible. For example, while the French healthcare system is the best in the world, it is also giving the government a huge debt and soon will see some (small) changes.
I really liked the movie and I think its important to share it with others, I hope it brings positive changes.
