Find out a few things about the beaches of the city of Fortaleza.

Iracema Beach:

This stretch of Fortaleza's coast honors the native Brazilian (indian) Iracema. Several of her statues are found scattered throughout the city. The book written by José de Alencar tells the story about the Portuguese hero Martim Soares Moreno. Matim had a great participation in the struggle against the Dutch invasion on the 17th century and has Iracema as his wife, source of his strength. Although no history book tells the story of Iracema (only José de Alencar's fiction), her presence became strong in the history of Fortaleza.

Among the beaches in Fortaleza, Iracema Beach is more known at night. There are many bars and restaurants that help bring to life the night with several options for all preferences. Pirata Bar, Dragão do Mar and Estoril are the main venues of the region. Besides them, there are dozens of other bars in the area.

It is important to note that Iracema beach is now widely visited by the tourists and this, unfortunately brought a higher price and a degree of violence above the city's average. The local population no longer prefers this spot and search other areas of the city such as the Varjota neighborhood.

Meireles:

Exercise area on the huge beach front sidewalk. During almost the entire day there are people of all ages walking and running by the Meirele's Beach sidewalk. The beach has a beautiful view and this is the area with the highest concentration of high-end hotels. Several restaurants also stay close to the region making an incredible place to spend the afternoon. At the beginning of the evening is when the open market opens, the place where you can find several handcraft products.

Mucuripe:

Do you want to eat fish or fresh shrimp?! You can find Mucuripe beach when you start to see the "jangadas" (small and simplistic fishing boats). In Mucuripe there is the fish market where everyday you can find fresh seafood. You can even choose the fish and ask for it to be cooked (or fried) for you on the spot.

In Mucuripe's beach there are also courts for sports and entertainment.

Futuro Beach:

It is the only beach in Fortaleza where it is safe to take a swim, but it is also the most distant from downtown (is it a coincidence??). It is also the only beach that is almost empty at night, except the venues that hold concerts or other parties or night events.

In the Futuro Beach you can see many 'barracas' (huts) that offer accommodation and food option for the clients. The prices for these services vary quite a lot between the huts so there are plenty of options. The sea also deserves attention since it can be very agitated and dangerous. If you are going to take a swim, do not venture too much out into the ocean.

A lot of sun, wind, and sand make the perfect combination for a relaxing Sunday morning (or any other day of the week if you have the chance).
